RESEARCH INTERESTS & PHD TOPIC

I am doing research into computer games and language use. Specifically, how language can be used to evoke affect (emotion), using computer games as the media. This covers a lot of different disciplines - linguistics, psychology and computer science. The aim is to make computer games more immersive, by allowing more interaction between players and Non Player Characters (NPCs).

My Supervisor is A/Prof Janet Wiles, my associate supervisors are Dr Steve Viller and Dr Peta Wyeth

Further information about my research is here, as well as links to papers that I have read and summarised. Topics include Recurrent Neural Networks, Natural Language, Dynamical Systems, Lindenmayer Systems and Fractals.

MY HISTORY

I completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Software) (Honours) in 2001. My Honours thesis was completed at Boeing Australia Ltd, working on the Lessons Learned System for use on the intranet. If you want to read the abstract for the thesis, click here.
