The BE(Hons)/ME in Electrical & Computer Engineering builds on the first three years of the BE or BE(Hons) in Electrical & Computer Engineering.

Core courses in years 4 and 5

All students will undertake

  • COMP3506 - Algorithms and Data Structures (compulsory from 2014)
  • CSSE4011 - Advanced Embedded Systems
  • CSSE7610 - Concurrency: Theory and Practice (compulsory from 2014)
  • ENGG4810 - Team Project II
  • ENGG4900 - Professional Practice and the Business Environment
  • ENGG7701 - Engineering Grand Challenges

and either

  • a year-long thesis project (ENGG7820, #6) along with one of
    • Introduction to Systems Engineering (ENGG4000), or
    • Project Management (ENGG4800), or
    • Research Methods (ENGG7811); or
  • a semester-long placement in industry or a research centre (ENGG7830, #8)
Elective courses

Year 4 electives are as per the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) list. In the first year or two of offering, elective courses on Electrical & Computer Engineering topics will depend upon student demand. Topics may include modelling & simulation; reconfigurable embedded systems; unmanned aerial vehicles; and VLSI circuits and systems. Electrical Engineering electives include

Below is a sample study plan for students undertaking the internship option. Many choices are possible for each elective. "Advanced Elective" means a level 4 course from the BE(Hons)(Electrical & Computer) Part B Advanced elective list; "Masters Elective" means a course from the BE(Hons)/ME (Electrical & Computer) part N elective list; "Coverage Elective" means a course from part B of the BE(Hons)(Electrical & Computer) list or parts A, B and C of the BE(Hons)(Software) list or part N of the BE(Hons)/ME (Electrical & Computer) list. Specific requirements apply to courses from each list. Your precise study plan will depend on what courses have been studied in years 1 to 3.
