The BE(Hons)/ME in Software Engineering builds on the first three years of the BE or BE(Hons) in Software Engineering.

Core courses in years 4 and 5

All students will undertake

  • ENGG4810 - Team Project II
  • ENGG4900 - Professional Practice and the Business Environment
  • ENGG7701 - Engineeri

and either

  • a year-long thesis project (ENGG7820, #6) along with one of
    • Introduction to Systems Engineering (ENGG4000), or
    • Project Management (ENGG4800), or
    • Research Methods (ENGG7811); or
  • a semester-long placement in industry or a research centre (ENGG7830, #8)
Masters Elective Courses
  • CSSE7610 - Concurrency: Theory and Practice
  • INFS7410 - Information Retrieval and Web Search [1]

Year 4 electives are as per the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) list. In the first year or two of offering, year 5 elective courses on Software Engineering topics will depend upon student demand. Topics may include programming language theory; modelling & simulation; model-driven software engineering. Other electives include

  • ENGG7302 - Advanced Computational Techniques in Engineering
  • ENGG7701 - Engineering Grand Challenges

Sample Study Plans

Below is a sample study plan for students undertaking the internship option. Many choices are possible for each elective. "Advanced Elective" means a level 4 course from the BE(Hons)(Software) Part B elective list; "Masters Elective" means a course from the BE(Hons)/ME (Software) part N elective list; "Coverage Elective" means a course from the BE(Hons)(Software) list (part B or C) or from the BE(Hons)/ME (Software) list (part N). Specific requirements apply to courses from each list.
