Miguel received graduated in Electrical Engineering from the University of Queensland in 2001 and joined the private sector in a Brisbane based firm where he gained a wealth of experience in a commercial environment as well as a research and development insight to Biomedical Engineering. In 2004 he completed a Masters Degree in biomedical engineering where his research focus was on analog and digital techniques in biosignal processing. In 2005 he joined the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (ITEE) as a Research Officer in Biomedical Instrumentation.

Research Interests

  • Electronics and medical instrumentation design with particular interest in devices for use in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  • Telemetric applications in cardio-respiratory, paediatrics and sports medicine.
  • MRI safety/Magnetic Field Dosimeter
  • Bioelectric signals from a patients using optical transducers
  • Wireless measurements (telemetric) of fetal movements as part of an important clinical trial and sports kinematics (particularly cricket fast bowlers)
