- At UQ, we go further than just preparing you for your first job.
We give you the tools, techniques and theory to understand the many facets
of engineering and to respond to ongoing industry change. Today's graduates
will change careers more often and more radically than before. You
need to know how to adapt, relate and communicate.
- UQ offers the largest range of engineering programs in
Queensland.
- Programs are accredited by the leading Australian professional
engineering association, Engineers
Australia, and the BE(CompSys) and BE(Software) are also accredited at
the professional level with the Australian
Computer Society.
- We're flexible and supportive. You can start off getting a taste of the
fundamentals of engineering and then specialise from second year onwards, or
if you know what you like, you can specialise from first year. First
Year students are supported in their transition to university life by a
staff member employed solely for this purpose, and have access to a new
million-dollar drop in centre just for first years.
- Did somebody say UQ was all theory and not enough practice? Our
programs have a core component of project work, using the latest
technology. The projects simulate design and delivery of a product or
service in a teamwork situation - an approach strongly supported by our
employer advisers.
Students can complete their projects with
industry and are required to complete a minimum period of industrial
experience before graduating.
- Our programs also involve site visits and compulsory
industrial
experience in real workplaces. Eligible students can work for up
to a whole semester at a partner company site in Australia or overseas, as
part of their studies.
- UQ is rated among the top 33 universities in the world
(Times
Higher Education Supplement, 2007), the top 5 in the Asia-Pacific region
(Shanghai Jiao Tong University rankings, 2007), the top 4 in Australia (Uni Melbourne
study, 2004) and number 1 in Queensland (all three studies).
- UQ is rated in the
top band of Australian universities for teaching quality and
number 1 in Queensland. A number of engineering teachers have
won UQ and national awards for their teaching.
- UQ is Queensland's top-ranked research university,
coming up with the new ideas. Because our staff are researchers as
well as teachers, you get access to the latest techniques. Some of the best teaching and resources for new students
spring from the research activities undertaken by staff and postgraduate students.
- UQ offers great facilities, beautiful campuses, students from all
over the world, and international exchange programs.
- Scores
for entry to the Bachelor of Engineering at UQ are higher than any other
university offering engineering in Queensland. Students serious
about studying engineering put UQ first.
- UQ offers
scholarships worth $20,000 to the
best students entering first year from school in Australia,
and scholarships that pay tuition fees for certain incoming international
students.
