 Bioinformatics

You can study Bioinformatics in a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree or in the Bachelor of Information Technology (BInfTech). In the BInfTech, you spend more time on computer science and information systems subjects: the computing behind the new biology. You also do selected biological and other science subjects. If you want a broader background, consider a dual BInfTech/BSc combination. For an extra year, you can build background in both the biology and the computing aspects.

Career options

Bioinformatics is a growing field, with much of the cutting-edge work still in the research rather than the industrial realm. Expect to see growth in demand in industrial labs, as more of the techniques become industry standards. Possible employers include pharmaceutical companies, and high-tech medical equipment producers.
