The School has forged links with a number of national and international centres of research excellence at the forefront of technological innovation, in areas such as sustainable energy, information infrastructure, e-Research, human cognition and genomics.

The University of Queensland's research profile notes that UQ is one of Australia's largest providers of industry-funded research and development expertise and its research commercialisation model represents current best practice.  The School of ITEE plays an important role in contributing to that reputation.

Some of the University's successful commercial spin-off ventures that have their roots in ITEE have been:

Types of Research Collaboration

Australian Research Council Linkage Programs

The ARC is an independent body established by the Australian Government to advance Australia’s capacity to undertake quality research.  An ARC Linkage Grant is an effective way to leverage your research dollar, giving you access to university expertise to solve the research and development challenges your organisation faces.

Your organisation can partner with ITEE researchers to apply for a grant that, together with a contribution from your organisation, provides the critical mass to get research underway.  ITEE staff will coordinate the paperwork.  The ARC brokers agreements with industry partners that take care of all the statutory requirements.

Joint ITEE and Industry/Government Research Contracts

Organisations can partner directly with ITEE to establish agreements to undertake research and development.  Contact the School's Manager of Innovation & Commerical  Development, Mr David Israel, to help put you in touch with the right expertise.

Joint ITEE and Industry Research Scholarships

Organisations can partner with ITEE to co-fund scholarships to research higher degree (Masters and PhD) students working on projects in which the industry partner may have an interest.  One innovative scholarship involves ITEE research higher degree students spending some of their time in the industry partner’s offices, participating in the firm’s R&D projects.

Commercialisation Services

Joint R&D sometimes leads to innovations with commercial potential.  ITEE has access to University Innovation and Commercial Development specialists who can help develop these commercial opportunities. They operate in conjunction with UQ’s subsidiary company, UniQuest Pty Ltd, one of Australia’s most highly regarded university technology transfer groups.
