Honours - BInfTech, BSc, BA, BE(Elec), BE(CompSys), BE(Software)
An Honours degree is for those who are interested in developing research initiative, and an ability to analyse and communicate new ideas. This degree is the preferred precursor to further research oriented study, and contains a significant project component. It is undertaken as the 4th year of study of the various undergraduate degrees.
Master of Interaction Design (previously Information Environments) Suite - MIDes, GDipIDes, GCIDes
The Master of Interaction Design degree is a three semester postgraduate course designed for students who have a background in a discipline other than Interaction Design, yet wish to acquire skills in this rapidly advancing field. The unique features of the degree are a design stream and a studio stream. The design stream emphasises the design of both real-world articles and human-computer interfaces. The studio stream enables students to combine skills from other subjects and undertake exciting individual and group project work.
Students may enrol in a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma program and upgrade to the Masters with full credit. Or, they can enrol in the Masters, but graduate with a Certificate or Diploma based on partial completion.
Master of Information Technology Suite - MInfTech, GDipInfTech, GCInfTech
The Master of Information Technology (MInfTech) degree is a three semester (one calendar year) postgraduate course designed for students who have a background in a discipline other than Information Technology, yet wish to acquire skills in this rapidly advancing field. Students will be taught by staff who are internationally recognised as leading experts in their fields, using state-of-the-art computing facilities. Entry is open to students with a Bachelor degree in any discipline with excellent results from a recognised University.
Students may enrol in a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma program and upgrade to the Masters with full credit. Or, they can enrol in the Masters, but graduate with a Certificate or Diploma based on partial completion.
The Master of Science (Computer Science) program is a 3 semester full time or 6 semesters part time postgraduate program designed for students with a background in Information Technology or Computer Science. The program aims to further professional development of graduates, prepare them for the challenges of rapidly advancing IT technologies and to provide industry with high skilled IT professionals. It is ideal for upgrading qualifications in a specific area and deepening knowledge and skills. The MSc(CompSc) program also introduces students to research in IT and graduates may be eligible to enter research degrees (research Masters or PhD). It requires completion of #24 from the MSc(CompSc) list. The program is also available within the Distributed Systems field, which includes courses offered by QUT, Griffith and Bond Universities. Entry is open to students with a Bachelor degree in IT with excellent results from a recognised university, or a Bachelor degree and some professional experience, or GDipSc(CompSc), or GCSc(CompSc).
Graduate Diploma of Science (Computer Science) - GDipSc(CompSc)
The Graduate Diploma of Science (Computer Science) program is a 2 semester full time or 4 semesters part time postgraduate program designed for students with a substantial undergraduate background in Information Technology or Computer Science. The program aims to prepare graduates for the challenges of rapidly advancing IT technologies and to provide industry with skilled IT professionals. This program can be used for specialised study in IT. The GDipSc(CompSc) program with suitable course selections can be used as a Masters qualifying year. It is ideal for upgrading qualifications in a specific area and deepening knowledge and skills. It requires completion of #16 from the MSc(CompSc) list. Entry is open to students with a Bachelor degree in IT, or GCSc(CompSc), or post-secondary study and 2 years relevant work experience approved by the Executive Dean.
Graduate Certificate of Science (Computer Science) - GCSc(CompSc)
The Graduate Certificate of Science (Computer Science) program is a 1 semester full time or 2 semesters part time postgraduate program designed for students with some undergraduate background in Information Technology or Computer Science. The program aims to introduce graduates to new directions and IT technologies and therefore to enhance their professional skills in IT. This program can be used for specialised study in IT. It is ideal for upgrading qualifications in a specific area and deepening knowledge and skills. It requires completion of #8 from the MSc(CompSc) list. Entry is open to students with a Bachelor degree in IT, or post-secondary study and 2 years relevant work experience approved by the Executive Dean.
Master of Engineering Suite - ME, GDipEng, GCEng
The Master of Engineering program is a postgraduate program designed for graduates with a degree in engineering or equivalent who wish to broaden and deepen their knowledge and skill base. It is available in the fields of computer systems, electrical, software, and telecommunications. A newly available field is Radio Frequency/Microwave Communications, dealing with design and manufacturing techniques. This program aims to provide students with the technological skills needed in the design and engineering of modern RF/Microwave systems and subsystems. The unprecedented success of cellular wireless communications created an unexpected demand for RF/Microwave communications engineers. The School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering is one of the few Australian schools capable of meeting this demand through its existing teaching and research expertise in this field and existing extensive facilities. The introduction of the field is response to the request from Australian wireless communications industries and The Queensland Department of State Development. As the whole process of introducing the field has been strongly industry driven, there is no doubt that there is a significant market need in Australia and abroad for this profile of engineers. This ME program will serve as perfect base for our future research PhD students. The coursework format has been developed to enable graduates to obtain an advanced level of knowledge in specialist fields of study related to the engineering subjects. The advanced professional engineering format provides the opportunity for experienced engineers to undertake research or an advanced engineering project which would be of benefit to them in their career development.
