When appliances, sensors, actuators and computers are all networked together, and also networked into the broader Internet, many new systems-level applications are possible, such as the Smart Car, Smart House, Smart Office, and Smart Hospital. Sensor networks for environmental data, and ambient information displays which display data in an unobtrusive way are areas of special interest.All of these applications depend on embedded systems technology in addition to particular domain knowledge.  Whilst we currently have some research interests in this area, it is one in which we hope to develop increased research capacity through collaborative links within the University, and with industry partners.
