Four members of CERG attend HFES2009--Matt Thompson, David Liu, Morgan Tear, and Penny Sanderson--and they present five papers between them, including one for Tobi Grundgeiger who could not be present.

At HFES2009, the new HFES-UQ student chapter was recognised for having achieved Silver Status. In her address at the student welcome function, student chapter coordinator Prof Sandra Garrett singled out the UQ chapter as having been outstandingly successful in its first year.

UQ PhD student Dave Liu won the status of HFES Student Member with Honors for his achievements. David was also one of the three finalists in the Alphonse Chapanis Best Student Paper Award.
