The Academy of Technological Science and Engineering (ATSE) has selected PhD Student Matthew Thompson as a '2009 ATSE Young Science Ambassador.'

Recipients are awarded for excellence in academic achievements, communications skills, personal qualities and enthusiasm for promoting science and science education.

Awards were presented at Queensland Parliament House by Mrs Else Shepherd, former Chair of the Queensland Division of ATSE, and Hon. Geoff Wilson, Minister for Education and Training (pictured).

Matthew will use his prize money to travel to regional areas in Queensland to share his passion for science with young people.
