The purpose of the course is to introduce students to concepts applied in computer networks and modern communication systems. Both the Open System Interconnection (OSI) model and the Internet model are used to show the logical structure of the communication systems. The course introduces students to topology, functions and architecture of computer and telecommunication networks, data transmission techniques, distributed computing paradigms including client-server and message passing models, functionality and design principles of communication protocols, application services of computer networks, techniques for interconnecting computer networks, network management and security, e-commerce models.
