Senior research scientist at NICTA and an adjunct at the University of Queensland, working with Prof. Brian Lovell. Received the PhD degree in 2003 in the areas of signal processing and pattern recognition in the context of biometrics. Obtained a "most cited paper" award for an article resulting from PhD studies. Author of a book on biometric person recognition.

Worked on a number of research projects, including robust speech recognition at ATR Laboratories (Japan), audio-visual biometrics at the IDIAP Research Institute (Switzerland), ship classification in infra-red images at CSSIP, as well as natural language processing (author identity deduction) and bioinformatics (feature selection for cancer classification) at NICTA.

Current research interests are in the areas of machine learning and computer vision, with applications such as automated surveillance.
