Frequently Asked Questions

How do I access the course newsgroup uq.itee.csse3001?

Some of you will find that you cannot post messages on the newsgroup, especially if your ISP is not UQconnect.  Try one of the following solutions:

  1. Refer to the methods suggested by the ITEE StudentHelp FAQ.
  2. If you only want to read the messages (but not post), the newsgroup could be accessed on the web.
  3. It is also possible to use ITEE’s secure news server sslnews.itee.uq.edu.au from off-campus by connecting to sslnews.itee.uq.edu.au using SSL and your ITEE username and password (but NOT using secure password authentication). This method is not supported by ITS.
  4. Use VPN:
    1. Download the VPN client using this link: http://uqconnect.net/helpdesk/guides/vpn/?show=student
    2. Follow the instructions from ITS on setting it up and connect to UQ using the VPN client;
    3. Use a newsgroup reader (eg. Outlook Express);
    4. Add “news.uq.edu.au” as a news server. Make sure the username and password fields are empty if prompted. Don’t put anything in those fields.
    5. Subscribe to uq.itee.csse.3001 and you should be able to post your own messages.
