A Behaviour-Event Framework for Model-Based GUI
Testing (BEF)
For
decades, many software applications have been providing graphical interfaces to
end users; however, despite of that proliferation, GUI testing in practice is
still fairly ad hoc. Model-based testing is now attracting a great attention as
one the promising solutions for GUI testing. The problem is that the test model
in the existing approaches is very close to the GUI implementation with limited
ability to represent abstract behaviours. In this research, we propose a
model-based GUI testing framework which isolates abstract behaviours and
implementation-level events, namely the Behaviour-Event Framework. The aims of
the proposed GUI testing approach are to keep testers focused on abstract behaviours
of the GUI and to generate test cases in a manageable and behaviour-oriented
way, hence avoiding the explosion of test cases.
