Abstract:
Our port of the uClinux operating system to the Xilinx Microblaze softcore processor is essentially complete. The port was undertaken to provide the software infrastructure for our on-going reconfigurable computing research.
By choosing a Linux-based operating system, we leverage the advantages of a very large, well-tested code base, a familar development environment, and the warm inner glow derived from Open Source software development.
In the presentation I will be demonstrating some of the features of the uClinux platform that make it attractive for embedded systems development, and sketch our ideas for turning it into a host for real-time reconfigurable embedded computing applications. I will also update on progress in the Egret project, which is the physical and logical hardware architecture for which the Microblaze uClinux port is destined.
