NASA's Vision for Space Exploration and the Reconfigurable Scalable Computing (RSC) project
Seminar Information

Speaker: Dr Robert F. Hodson, NASA Langley Research Center

When: 1:30PM Wednesday 6th July 2005

Venue: 78-420

Abstract:

NASA's New Vision for Space Exploration calls for a human return to the Moon by 2020, and the longer term goal of human spaceflight to Mars in the mid 21st Century. One of the strategic challenges put forth by NASA’s Exploration Systems Mission Directorate is Reconfigurability. Reconfigurable systems are defined as systems that can be reconfigured following initial deployment, enable adaptation to new circumstances, and/or evolve to support high level system options.

The Reconfigurable Scalable Computing (RSC) project funded through NASA is a four year project to define and build a space-qualified reconfigurable computing platform to support NASA missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond. This seminar discusses the new vision, some of the challenges of space avionics, and how the RSC platform helps to address these challenges.
