General Information

Conference Venue

Brisbane, the third largest city in Australia, is the capital of the State of Queensland and has a population of more than one million people who enjoy a temperate to subtropical climate all year round. The beautiful The University of Queensland St Lucia Campus is situated on the Brisbane River just 7 km from the city centre and 18 km from the Airport. The University is one of Australia’s oldest and most prestigious campuses with over 25,000 students and 2,000 academic staff. Taxis and regular bus and river-boat services connect the campus to the city centre in 15 minutes. All Conference sessions will be held in the Abel Smith Lecture Theatre at The University of Queensland St Lucia Campus.

International Delegates

Visitors holding passports from countries other than Australia and New Zealand require an entry visa. Visas cannot be purchased on arrival in Australia. Australia’s Electronic Travel Authority system (ETA) is a streamlined travel authorisation system. Details are available at www.immi.gov.au/business/iecn.htm.

Climate and Clothing

Australia’s seasons are opposite to the seasons in the Northern Hemisphere. December is Summer time in Brisbane and temperatures range from 20C- 35C. A hat and sunscreen are recommended for outdoor activities. Dress for the conference, including the Conference dinner, is casual comfortable clothing. Ties and jackets are not necessary. We recommend that you bring a sweater / jacket for the cooler evenings and for the Conference dinner venue.

Airport Transfers

COACHTRANS provides coach transfers from Brisbane international and domestic terminals to the Transit Centre in the city centre every 30 minutes at AUD$9.00 per person. A regular train service (the Airtrain) also operates between Brisbane airport and the city (Transit Centre). See www.airtrain.com.au. Local Council buses and taxis are then available to transport delegates to the University St Lucia Campus (15 minutes). A taxi from the city to the University is approximately AUD$20. A taxi fare from the airport to the University is approximately AUD$38.

Insurance

Registration fees do not include insurance of any kind. It is strongly recommended that all delegates take out their own travel and medical insurance prior to coming to the Conference. The policy should include loss of fees/deposit through cancellation of your participation in the Conference, or through cancellation of the Conference itself, loss of airfares for any reason, medical expenses, loss or damage to personal property, additional expenses and repatriation should travel arrangements have to be altered. The Conference Secretariat will not take any responsibility for any participant failing to insure. Please speak to your travel agent or airline in regard to this matter.
