Mission Statement

The mission of the Interaction Design Research Division is to investigate and design people's interactive experience with technology in ways that promote theoretical development, stimulate new industry practice, and enhance users' experience.

We aim to carry out our mission in a way that leads us to become internationally recognised for our target areas of activity within five years.

Our means to this end will include (a) research innovation published in prestigious international journals and conferences, supported by national competitive grants, and (b) concept demonstrators that embody our innovation, supported by productive industry collaborations.

Our areas of focus are:

- multi-modal interfaces and ubiquitous computing
- information design and information visualisation
- collaborative learning environments
- human-centred design
- studies of the design process
- participatory design
- affective computing
- interactive environments and immersion
