Extensions and Generalizations of the Self-Organizing Map
Sixth International Conference on Intelligent Data Engineering and Automated Learning IDEAL'05 6 - 8 July 2005, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
The Self-Organizing Map (SOM) has gained enormous popularity in the fields of unsupervised learning and data visualization. Many extensions and generalizations of SOM have been proposed for dealing with diverse forms of data types, such as text documents, symbolic or real-valued time series, graphs etc. Moreover, there exist several formulations of topographic maps as probabilistic models or kernel machines. The IDEAL'05 special session is an opportunity for researchers to share and discuss recent developments in the theory and algorithms of topographic maps.
We encourage papers on (but not restricted to) the following:
- dynamic feed-back mechanisms in generalizations of SOM for time-series data - topographic maps of spatio-temporal data - topographic maps of structured data, such as trees and graphs - probabilistic formulations of topographic maps - use of evolutionary and natural computation techniques in constructing topographic maps - theoretical analysis of the existing models - text and document analysis - applications (in bioinformatics, robotics, finance, etc.)
All submissions will be peer reviewed by referees expert in the topic. Accepted papers will be invited for presentation, and will be included for publication in the IDEAL 2005 proceedings to be published by Springer-Verlag in the prestigious Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. Outstanding papers will be included in the IJNS Special Issue.
Instructions for Authors:
