The Textbook of MS Access 2007 to be used in this course:
R.T. Grauer, M.W. Lockley, and K. Mulbery. Series: Exloring Microsoft Office Access 2007 Comprehensive, Pearson Prentice Hall, 2008, ISBN-13: 978-0-13-156788-7.
The practical sessions are divided into two periods:
The first 5 weeks of practicals (starting from week 3 through to week 7) are to allow students to get familiar with MS Access interface and tools. Please see SI-Net for scheduled sessions and sign-on. During this period, proficiency in MS Access needs to be gained which will be guided by the MS Access text book (Grauer, Lockley, & Mulbery). The first 6 chapters of the book must be covered. However, students are free to work at their own pace, provided the first 6 chapters are thoroughly covered.
Click here for the Timetable and the tutor allocations.
Note that 1 hour per week for Prac is basically to make available lab time for you - there are no supervised weekly set exercises. However, one supervised session is offered for weeks (3-7). Students are free to learn the basic skills on MS Access in their own time, however, if you have any questions, you can take them to this session, even if you did not sign up for it.
The publisher site has some information about this book and student data files. At the end of each chapter, you can also try out the Hands-on Exercises using the Data Files provided by the publisher. There are also some concept animations available for students to understand the Access 2007.
An MSAccess 2007 tutorial and Tips on converting to MSAccess 2007.
The part of the assessment of this course is to address student's proficiency in developing an Access application.
