Announcements:

[5-6-2009]: Slides for review questiosn are online now (click here to download).

[5-6-2009]: Consultation times: Xiaofang in room 78-629: 3:30-5pm Mon(15/6) and Wed(17/6); and Helen in room 78-643: 9:30-11:30am Tues (16/6) and Wed (17/6).

[1-5-2009]: The following items are online now: (1) Assignment 2 (see Section 2 area); (2) slides for the next next two lectures on Multimedia databases (see Section 2 area); and (3) updated slides for High Dimensional Indexing (see Section 1 area). Dr Helen Huang will be the lecturer for the next two weeks. She is a leading expert on video databases (see http://www.itee.uq.edu.au/~huang/).

[4-5-2009]: Slides and reference papers for high dimensional indexing part are online now.

[29-4-2009]: Assignment 1 will be due at 5pm 1 May (this Friday!). Slides for this week's lecture on advanced spatial databases are online now.

[7-4-2009]: Important changes: The change of the lecture time from Tuesday to Friday caused more problems than I thought. First, I had to ask Dr Deng to teach for the last two weeks as I had to travel on Fridays (previously chosen based on that I would teach on Tuesday). Now, I just realized that this Friday is a public holiday. So no lecture this Friday, and the lecture planned for this week (spatial query processing) has to be moved to 24 April (and the two lectures on advanced topics now combined into one). Pls check the revised timetable on this website. This change also affects assignments. As a result, the due date for assignment 1 submission is pushed back by one week (now 5pm 1 May), and the release date for assignment 2 is also pushed back by one week.

[16-3-2009]: Assignment 1 is released now. Pls go to Section 1 area to download. Also, due to the change of lecture day and my already arranged trips based on the old lecture day, Dr Ken Deng will be your lecturer for the next two weeks (on spatial indexing structures). So I will see you on 10 April. You can still reach me via email during that period (I will be overseas but should still check emails frequently). Pls note that we have no lecture in week 5 (3 April) - you need to study papers in order to understand how to design query execution plans using spatial indexes. - Xiaofang

[11-3-2009]: As discussed at the lecture this week, the new lecture time from week 3 (next week!) will be from 3-5pm on Fridays. The lecturer room remains unchanged.

[8-3-2009]: Slides for the next 5 weeks are online now - pls go to Section 1 area to download.

[5-3-2009]: It has been brought to my attention that the lecture time of this course clashes with that of INFS3200/7907. Can you pls email me if you have concern about this. Should there be many concerns, it is possible for me to contact all students to find an alternative lecture time for this course.

[3-3-2009]: The lecture venue for this course is 78-622.

[24-2-2009]: The lecture notes to be used in the first lecture are online now. You can download the slides (one-slide-per-page) or the handout (6-slides-per-page) (both as PDF files).

[7-2-2009]: Welcome to this course. This is a combined website for INFS4205 and INFS7205. I will be your lecturer this semester. This website is still under construction, and most information you can find here is still from 2008. I will update and have the new content online by 15 Feb. Pls note that the first lecture will be on 3/03/2009, Tuesday from 2PM to 4PM (of course, pls check SI-net to confirm this information, as it may change). At the same time, you are welcome to discuss with me if you have any questions about this course. - Xiaofang
