Preface
The following document was prepared as a summary of the material covered at the NECSI intensive summer school June/July 2004. It also contains a small amount of material gained from follow up reading and research.
I have attempted to weave all the material together into two main blocks, one on complex systems concepts and the other on modelling. This structure mirrors the focus of each of the two weeks of the course, however, the content described in each section comes in part from both weeks of the course.
Not all the material covered during the course fit easily into this structure, so I have also created an appendix of general concepts and tools for any material I couldn't fit easily into the narrative. Hopefully this means that it is easy to read and pick out material that seems most pertinent.
