AW: [microblaze-uclinux] Ethernet MAC
Hi,
I do not know how much the dm9000 costs. The SMSC LAN91C111 is around $18.
Anyone still interested in a 10/100 MB MAC/PHY at that price should check out:
http://www.smsc.com/main/catalog/lan91c111.html
They provide a Linux Driver, too.
An interesting project using the LAN91C111 can be found at:
http://www.ethernut.de/en/hardware.html
Check out the ethernut 2.0 Hardware.
The interface of the LAN91C111 seems to be pretty flexible (non-pci, 8/16/32 Bit wide data bus, synchronous are asynchronous read/write operations). The price of the chip is around $18.
I would love to here your opinion.
Regards
Jan

we know that dm9000 is not the best mac/phy chip. if you know some other 100baseT chip for isa bus, let us know!
other choice might be using pci.
pros:
- you might have more chips to choose from
cons:
- host controler takes some gates in fpga
any other thoughts are always welcome ;)

we thought about smsc. It's more expensive than dm9k for us :(
