I think there are (at least) two possible causes for this:

(1) the flat binary is corrupted somewhere between elf2flt and being 
read on the microblaze board.  Filesystem issues, memory bugs (processes 
writing where they shouldn't etc) can cause this.

(2) there's a bug in elf2flt / binfmt_flat.c for microblaze support.

option 2 is certainly not impossible - I recently discovered and fixed 
such a bug, but it was the first in about 6 months, so...

But you say that the file works fine if you don't compress it?  That's 
odd - I've never seen any problems with the compression/decompression 
side of elf2flt...

What is the application?  Is it something from uClinux-dist, or your own?
