Is this ISE 6.2?   If so, contact your local Xilinx guy for ISE 6.3    This is in
CD manufacturing now, and can also be downloaded if you have an XPA agreement.
I'd never heard of this kernel requirement, but then, I haven't tried the parallel
port driver under linux yet.

You can also open a webcase at Xilinx to get clarification on the kernel
requirement (which I'd like to see answered, actually).

What happens when you try running Impact?  (with your current kernel)
