Yes, I can sure you that OpenSSL works great with SSH (client side). Of
course, SSH only use the OpenSSL's crypto library, so I think that your
problem have to be related with another part of the OpenSSL
implementation (I have used the same version of OpenSSL like you:
http://www.ucdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/07/30/0114226&mode=thread).
