I used the Base System Builder w/ EDK 8.1.02i to generate a system with the OPB_EMAC and I'm also having problems in uClinux.  Oddly, the first ping - made either to or from uClinux works and everyone thereafter times out... unless I unplug and replug the cable, then one ping will work and the rest time out again.

I noticed that the newest EDK includes a new version of the EMAC core which is supposedly incompatible with previous versions of the core.  The new EMAC driver is also incompatible with previous versions.  I haven't dug into the details to find what exactly the differences are.  But this might be a reason for some of the problems we've experienced.

Is there a way to deprecate a core using the EDK GUI?  Or do I just need to modify the .mhs/.mss files? (not that simple txt editing is difficult, I'm just trying to find my way around the new EDK interface)

Have you tried using a hub in order to make sure that its just not the cross over cable.  I have found that when i have problems with cross over cables especially in host and target network configurations that using a switch or hub fixes most problems.

I've followed the instructions from John Williams and Jason Wu, and
finally got uClinux-kernel booted on my Spartan-3E-Starter-Kit

However, there's no boot message on the terminal, I got just a login
prompt when the kernel started:
uclinux-auto login:

Anyway, the kernel still works.
Then I tried to test the networking and followed the instructions.

There's no problem to ping itself. But I can't ping my PC, which is
connected to the Eva-Board using crossover cable. There's even no ARP
packets received.
It seems that the RX- and TX-pins are not connected to the FPGA. Did I
miss something?

Any help is appreciated.

The auto-config.in is generated by EDK Libgen (8.1 sp2) and directly
copied to
uClinux-dist/linux-2.4.x/arch/microblaze/platform/uclinux-auto/
