Re: [microblaze-uclinux] EDK 7.1 under cygwin
Hi Wade,
I downloaded and installed CentOS 4.3, after much messing around with
Nero and many reject disks. I then tried to install EDK 7.1 however EDK
complained that some of the libraries were too recent, ie CentOS 4.3 had
libcurl.so.3 when it was looking for libcurl.so.2. CentOS 4.3 would not
allow me to install the older libraries.
I believe EDK 7.1 is designed for RHEL 3.0. I assume I should be using
CentOS 3.7.
Could you please confirm that before I try burning and installing new CDs ?
I found the /etc/issue file. I assume I need to change the contents to
make it look like RHEL 3.0.
Can you tell me what string I should be using, or do I need to delve
through all the Makefiles ?
Thanks
John.

Also, if you decide to do the VMWare route, the centos
(http://www.centos.org) distro is exactly like RHEL3.0, except
branding identification has been removed from the code (after a
warning letter from RedHat), but is free. They also handle updates so
updates from RedHat are not used.
With MontaVista, their install script looks at /etc/issue to
determine if it is RedHat or not. If you look at their install
script, there is an option to point it to a file that tells the
install script if it can install on that machine. At this point, you
can have a working Linux install of MontaVista, and if you need, the
John Williams toolchain, running under Windows. It makes a nice
development environment.
