You should start by reading the following book:
Linux Device Drivers 2nd edition for Linux 2.4
or
Linux Device Drivers 3rd edition for Linux 2.6
Authors are: Alessandro Rubini & Jonathan Corbet.
You can buy the book or they publish it free on pdf if you just want
to browse it.
Then browse the source codes to look at various drivers released in
the source. Look in the directory drivers.
