Thanks for the response - nice to know we're not off the rails here. <G>

DMA Present is set to No DMA. (C_DMA_PRESENT = 1) .

Rebuilt with the evaluation license again, just to double-check it was 
related to the license, and.....
.. the error seems to still be there, so it's not related to the MAC ip 
license.  Now chasing it as a firmware issue, even though the source I had 
was unchanged - maybe there was a sensitivity we hadn't seen yet.
