Hi all, If there is enough interest, it might be great to submit
some MicroBlaze-Linux project ideas for Google Summer of Code (GSoC) - http://code.google.com/soc/2008/faqs.html. Key details of GSoC: -
Google provides stipend of $5000 USD to as many as 1000 students for working on
open source software projects for a 3-4 month period over summer 2008. -
Open source “organizations” or “groups” (like this
MicroBlaze linux community) can submit project ideas and sign up to be mentor
organizations. http://code.google.com/soc/2008/faqs.html#0.1_mentoring_orgs. -
Google will select around 100-150 -
Students get paired with mentors from the open source project and they work on
the project for about 3-4 months, under the guidance of the mentor. -
Google pays the student(s) for writing code for the project in 2-3 chunks based
on progress and a nominal amount to the mentors for administrative work
performed. Only problem is that the deadline is March 12th noon
US Pacific time - http://code.google.com/soc/2008/faqs.html#0.1_timeline
– 13 hours from now. L But if there is enough interest, this could be done next
year as well – good for the community (more developers), good for the
students potentially involved - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code. --navanee |
