I suspect that most people who are building under Ubuntu, are just linking /bin/sh to /bin/bash.So, the kernel build is copied straight from mainline - worth looking at a more recent kernel and see what's been done about it. Surely people are building kernels under Ubuntu without manual script and Makefile hacking.. That's what I did, and it (of course) worked fine. It's alot simpler than trying to figure out the alternatives, and frankly, I'm accustomed to bash being the default shell under Linux, I don't see it as a disadvantage.
