For such things we have successfully
used DSP System Generator from Xilinx.
The Creation there is very simple as
you use Matlab/Simulink to simulate and debug your Core. 
Afterwards you create an interface to
Microblaze by using FSL Bus and integrate it in your EDK Project with two
clicks. 
Everything is easy. Even C drivers for
MB- IP Core data exchange are automatically generated - all you need is
to copy them to your Linux Machine and start writing your driver. 
We have successfully created TFT Graphical
Display Driver and Touchscreen with this technics.
