Short Biography
Since 1990 she is the Professor
in Information Systems at the University of Queensland, School of Information
Technology and Electrical Engineering in Brisbane, Australia. She is the head of
Data and Knowledge Engineering Division and a Deputy Head of the ITEE School.
She is one of creators of the Distributed Systems Technology Centre, DSTC Pty
Ltd, and after over ten years of research collaboration, a Distinguished
Research Fellow of the DSTC. Currently she is the convener Enterprise
Information Infrastructure ARC Research Network

Since 1994 till 2000 she served
as a VLDB Endowment trustee as a Far East representative. Prof Orlowska served
on many international conferences as a PC Chair including the VLDB, ICDE
and over 170 memberships of Program Committees. She is a member of the Editorial
Board of eight international journals including Int Journal of Data and
Knowledge Engineering and Int Journal of Internet and Web Information Systems
and others. Her involvement at Australian Research Council’s College of Experts
contributed to maintenance of high standards in competitive research grants
allocation.
Her research interests
include database system, data mining, workflow technology, eBusiness
collaboration, business process modelling and verification, high performance
systems, transaction processing, distributed/integrated databases and
information retrieval.
Her research contributions
appear in over 280 published research papers in peer reviewed international
journals and conferences. Twenty nine PhD students have successfully completed
their research studies under her supervision.
In March 2003, Maria Orlowska
was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science.
