How to find your grid coordinates

Using street-directory.com.au

The easiest way to find your site's grid coordinates is to look for your address using www.street-directory.com.au.

Once you have found your site, view the "page source".

Look for the x and y values, something like the following:

<input type="hidden" name="x" value="152.9567700000">
<input type="hidden" name="y" value="-27.5125490000">

Use the y value for the latitude (Lat. N: -27.512549), and the x value for the longitude (Lon. E: 152.95677) and either convert them to eastings and northings using the GPS form below, or set your GPS coords preference to 'yes' using the Preferences page to enter these values directly.

Using the UBD

If you have a paperback UBD, you can use the eastings and northings marked along the grid borders. Each square represents 250 metres x 250 metres.

Note: UBD street directories use the AMG66 grid (which is the combination of the ANS ellipsoid model and the AGD66 datum). Brisbane is in UTM zone 56.

GPS

If you have access to a GPS receiver, you can use the GPS to AMG66 grid converter through this form:

Lat. N: Lon. E:

Or, alternatively, use the Preferences page to set the default view to GPS so that you can enter lat/long values directly. Note that the underlying coordinate system is UTM.

Gazetteer of Australia search

You can also search for suburb names or railway stations in National Mapping Division's database of geographic names using this next form, and then use the GPS to grid converter above.
