Design of Safety-Critical Systems

This 1/2 day course will provide an introduction to the considerations that must be taken into account when undertaking development or acquisition of a safety-critical system. This course will briefly introduce and discuss:

  • Safety lifecycle concepts and terminology
  • Hazard and Risk Analysis
  • Risk acceptance and other legal issues facing safety critical design
  • Design for safety
  • Safety cases
  • Human factors

 

Presenter's bio:
Simon Connelly is a Research Officer with the Software Verification Research Centre at the University of Queensland. He has taught on the SVRC's
popular three-day Development of Safety Critical Systems and IEC 61508 courses many times, and has consulted to industry clients in defence, mining and the process industry.  His research has included human factors in system safety and human-computer interaction.
