Abstract:
GrangeNet operates a multi-gigabit research and education network, from Melbourne to Brisbane, supporting grid and advanced communications services. It aims to support the broadest possible community of researchers, ranging from network engineers and computer scientists through to (for example) astronomers, bioinformaticians, distance educators and linguists. Activities on the network include high-performance computing, large-scale distributed data archives, online instruments, advanced telecollaboration and networked visualisation. GrangeNet provides opportunities for facilitating new collaborations, or enhancing existing collaborations, both nationally and internationally. This talk will outline the GrangeNet network, its infrastructure, its grid and communications services, how Universities and researchers can access it, and how users can make use of its services. The GrangeNet project is a joint venture involving AARNet, APAC, DSTC, Cisco and PowerTel, and is funded through the Federal Government's BITS Advanced Networks Program.
