ITEE Ph.D confirmation seminar: Richard Thomas, 10.00AM, Tue 20 May 2003
Introducing a Software Engineering Process into SMEs
Speaker: Richard Thomas, ITEE
When: 10.00AM, Tuesday 20 May 2003
Venue: 78-622
Host: A/Prof. Roger Duke
Abstract:
The use of software engineering processes is widely accepted as being critical for sustained success in software development. Studies have shown that the disciplined use of any process significantly increases the likelihood of project success. Yet, despite this belief and evidence, many organisations still do not use any process, or if they do, they do not use it in a disciplined manner. This seminar will start by reviewing the different styles of processes available and will then consider the factors that influence the success or failure of adopting a process in an organisation. Next a simple process tailored to small teams unfamiliar with software engineering processes will be briefly introduced. Finally experience of using this process in industrial and educational settings will be discussed.
