Abstract:
Do you know this feeling when you can't find something you wrote a few months ago? It should be in some folder somewhere in your file system, but somehow your interpretation of the directory structure must have been different when you filed it. You start asking cats and dogs about it but they spend a long time searching without success. And things get even worse if you search something someone else wrote. We wondered what would happen if you take a full-featured search engine, a few indexing tools for different file formats and a little bit of our own technology, put it all together and shake it well. The result of this experiment is a little document retrieval tool we call "Docco" and which allows you to do rather complex queries on your document collection, for which the results are retrieved fast and displayed in a structured way. We love it -- will you? The talk will give a quick introduction into the idea, the tools used and then go straight into a demo of the result. The demo will run live on some DSTC collection, at the moment we aim for at least the website, most likely we will be able to run on all documents found on the shared network drives.
