Sustainable Energy Research Group

About us

Society today requires energy on demand.  For heating, cooling, lighting, cooking, transport etc. the energy that we use requires technologies that link end-user services back to energy sources. These linked technologies create pathways that harness, store and convert energy in its various forms to deliver the services we need. Most of today's energy systems require technological pathways based on non-renewable or greenhouse gas-emitting hydrocarbon energy sources, such as coal, oil and natural gas.  These dominant energy resources are both unsustainable in the long term and their use has a high impact on the environement both locally and globally.  For these reasons,  the Sustainable Energy Research Group is committed to promoting and developing creative alternatives. Building our groups heritage of knowledge in power electronics and vehicle design, our expertise covers fuel processing, fuel cell materials and technologies and analysis of sustainable energy systems.

Funding for the Sustainable Energy Research Group has been provided by the Australian Research Council, Queensland Government, by industrial sponsors and partner organisations.  We have also extensive links with national and international research groups.  We have a series of on-going research projects and are keen to collaborate with others in developing innovative technological solutions that address issues of energy supply and utilisation for a sustainable future.
