A Framework for Model-Based GUI Testing

A Framework for Model-Based GUI Testing

Speaker: Duc Hoai Nguyen

For decades, many software applications have provided graphical interfaces to end users; however, despite this proliferation, GUI testing is often performed in an ad-hoc fashion. Model-based testing is now attracting attention as one the promising solutions for GUI testing. The problem is that the test model in the existing approaches is very close to the GUI implementation, with limited ability to represent abstract behaviours. In this research, we propose a model-based GUI testing framework which isolates abstract behaviours and implementation-level events. The aims of the proposed GUI testing approach are to keep testers focused on abstract behaviours of the GUI and to generate test cases in a manageable and behaviour-oriented way, hence reducing testing cost and making the testing more effective.
