Dr. Gabriel Fung currently
holds the title of Research Scientist in the School of Information
Technology and Electrical Engineering at the University of Queensland.
He received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Systems Engineering
and Engineering Management at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In
2005 fall, a year before his normative Ph.D. study period, Gabriel was
hired by his department as a full time teaching staff. Gabriel's major
research interest is data mining. Gabriel has taught postgraduate and
undergraduate courses. He was one of the invited speakers to share his
teaching experiences in the "Orientation for the New Teaching
Assistants" in his university in 2003, and received the Best Teaching
Assistant Award in 2004.
In 2004, his paper titled "Classifying Text Streams in the Presence of
Concept Drifts" received the Best Student Paper Award in the 8th
International Conference of Pacific-Asia Knowledge Discovery and Data
Mining (PAKDD'04). In 2002, his paper titled "Event Driven Stock Trend
Prediction" received the Worthwhile Mentioning Award in the ACM
(Association for Computing Machinery) Postgraduate Paper Context. In the
same year, his paper titled "News Sensitive Stock Trend Prediction
System" received the Top Ten Papers Award in the IEE (The Institute of
Electrical Engineers) Hong Kong Young Members Paper Context.
Since 2005, Gabriel is frequently invited to be the reviewer of some
journals and conferences. In 2007, Gabriel is invited be the program
committee member of the 11h IEEE International EODC Conference on
Enterprise Computing (EODC'07), the 9th Asia-Pacific Web Conference
(APWeb'07) and the 4th International Conference on Fuzzy Systems and
Knowledge Discovery (FSKD'07).
