Professor Xiaofang Zhou is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Queensland, and the Head of the Data and Knowledge Engineering Research Division at UQ. He was the Convenor and Director of ARC Research Network in Enterprise Information Infrastructure from 2004-2011 (a major national research collaboration initiative in Australia), and the founding chair of ACM SIGSPATIAL Australian Chapter from 2010-2011. Xiaofang received his BSc and MSc degrees in Computer Science from Nanjing University, China, and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Queensland. Before joining UQ in 1999, he worked as a researcher in Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), leading its Spatial Information Systems group. His research focus is to find effective and efficient solutions for managing, integrating and analyzing very large amount of complex data for business, scientific and personal applications. He has been working in the area of spatial and multimedia databases, data quality, high performance query processing, Web information systems and bioinformatics, co-authored over 200 research papers with many published in top journals and conferences such as SIGMOD, VLDB , ICDE, ACM Multimedia, The VLDB Journal, ACM Transactions and IEEE Transactions. He was the Program Committee Chair of IFIP Conference on Visual Databases (VDB 2002), Australasian Database Conferences (ADC 2002 and 2003), International Conference on Web Information Systems Engineering (WISE 2004), Asia Pacific Web Conferences (APWeb 2003 and 2006), International Conference on Databases Systems for Advanced Applications (DASFAA 2009 and DASFAA 2012), the 22nd and 23rd International Conference on Database and Expert Systems Applications (DEXA 2011 and 2012), the 20th International Conference on Cooperative Information Systems (CoopIS 2012) and the 29th International Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE 2013). He has been on the program committees of numerous international conferences, including SIGMOD (2007, 08, 09), VLDB (2008, 09, 13), ICDE (2005-07, 09-11), WWW (2006, 08, 09, 12) and ACM Multimedia (2011). Currently he is an Associate Editor of The VLDB Journal, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, World Wide Web Journal and Springer's Web Information System Engineering book series. In the past he was an Associate Editor of Information Processing Letters and an area editor of Encyclopedia of Database Systems. Xiaofang is an Adjunct Professor of Renmin University of China appointed under the Chinese National Qianren Scheme, and serves as the Director of RUC-UQ Joint Lab on Data Engineering and Knowledge Engineering.

A new book "Computing with Spatial Trajectories" edited by Yu Zheng (Microsoft) and Xiaofang Zhou is published by Springer in this November. See this book at Springer and Amazon. "Computing with spatial trajectories is still a fairly young and dynamic research field. This book may serve researcher and application developers a comprehensive overview of the general concepts, techniques, and applications on trajectory indexing, search and data mining, and help them explore this exciting field and develop new methods and applications" - by Jiawen Han.
