OH&S Requirements
- Ensure you have either completed a risk assessment or read (and confirmed as being read) the relevant risk assessment before attempting to operate or maintain this equipment.
- The Process ID which refers to the general risk assessment regarding activities in the darkroom / PCB etching facility is 19251 and addresses the operation and chemicals used in conjunction with this equipment.
- Visually check the equipment is safe to operate and the electrical safety tag is current. If expired, the equipment must be tested and tagged before proceeding.
- Wear safety glasses, gloves and a lab coat before you being.
- Clean room protocols apply to the darkroom / PCB etching facility
Container #1
- Volume = 15 litres / Chemical life in container = 3 months
- Ensure the container is perfectly clean before filling
- Before continuing, be aware that cross contamination between containers must be avoided
- Fill with 750mil (5% by volume) of Black Hole SP Conditioner EEL 51-02-03
- Add 14.25 litres of de-ionised water EEL 50-11-02
- Maintenance requirements for this container as follows:
- Over time evaporation may occur, top-up as required with de-ionised water EEL 50-11-02
Container #2
- Sprinkler tank, no fill required
- Maintenance requirements for this container are as follows:
- Check spray nozzles periodically and ensure they are clean and free from scale
Container #3
- Not used, but should be kept clean
Container #4
- Volume = 11.5 litres / Chemical life in container = 1 Year
- Ensure container is perfectly clean and dry before filling
- Thoroughly stir the Black Hole SP Starter before dispensing
- Fill with 11.5 litres of Black Hole SP Starter EEl 50-11-03
- Maintenance requirements for this container are as follows:
- The contents of this container should be thoroughly stirred a minimum of 2 times per week when not in use and before starting each job
Container #5
- Drying tank, no fill required
- Maintenance requirements for this container are as follows:
- Ensure tank is always kept clean
Container #6
- Volume = 42 litres / Chemical life in container = 1 Year
- Ensure container is perfectly clean before filling
- Fill with 42 litres of Acid Copper 9241 Solution EEL 51-02-02
- Add 100ml of Macuspec 9241 Brightner EEL51-01-02
- Over time evaporation may occur, top-up container with Acid Copper 9241 EEL 51-02-02 plus 0.4ml f Macuspec 9241 Brightner EEL 51-01-02 per litre of Acid Copper added
- Maintenance requirements for this container are as follows:
- Add 10ml of Macuspec 9241 Brightner EEL 51-01-02 after every 100 Ampere hours of usage or when prompted by Contac II process menu or considered necessary by the operator
- Filter contents using filer paper EEL50-05-01 and thoroughly clean tank at 3 monthly intervals. Do not rinse the black coating off the anodes.
Container #7

- Check spray nozzles periodically and ensure they are clean and free from scale
Container #8
- Not currently in use - ensure the element is fully immersed in water as a safety precaution and disable tinning tank option as per menu instructions
Waiting Period
The chemicals must have been in the Contac II for a minimum of 24 hours before commencing plating
