ITEE Internal Mentoring Program (iMentor)

iMentor aims to enrich your first year experience in ITEE by linking you with some of our more experienced student mentors. Volunteer mentors will provide you with the assistance and guidance, so you can have the best possible start at UQ. It is also a great way to extend your social network and meet new friends.

Both mentees and mentors are matched together to form groups. iMentor coordinators arrange initial introductions. Following that, mentors keep in contact with their groups and organise meetings and activities.

What can a student mentor do for you

A student mentor can:

  • Answer general questions about ITEE and UQ
  • Help you with timetabling issues
  • Give you tips on managing your study load
  • Direct you to the appropriate services on campus
  • Take you on a campus tour
  • Keep in regular email contact
  • Make time for personal contact

What a student mentor cannot do for you

A student mentor cannot:

  • Be your personal tutor
  • Help you with your assignments
  • Be your counsellor
  • Represent you for academic matters or disputes

To be a student mentor, you must:

  • Have a cumulative GPA higher than 4.0
  • Have completed at least two semesters at UQ
  • Be enrolled in an ITEE program
  • Have good spoken and written English

The mentor appointment is voluntary for 2 semesters.
